How Anxiety Hijacks Your Body: From Head to Toe

Head: Anxiety can cause tension headaches. The constant state of worry and stress can tighten muscles around your scalp, leading to headaches or migraines.

Eyes: When anxious, your pupils dilate, causing blurred vision or increased sensitivity to light. This is part of your body’s fight-or-flight response.

Mouth: Anxiety may lead to dry mouth. Stress decreases saliva production, making it harder to swallow and creating a cottonmouth feeling.

Throat: Many experience a "lump in the throat" or difficulty swallowing when anxious. This sensation is due to muscle tension in the throat and esophagus.

Heart: Your heart rate accelerates as the body releases adrenaline during anxiety. This leads to palpitations, which can feel like your heart is racing or pounding.

Lungs: Shallow breathing and rapid breaths are common during anxiety. This can result in shortness of breath or a feeling of being unable to breathe deeply.

Stomach: Anxiety often triggers digestive problems. You might feel nausea, stomachaches, or even experience diarrhea or constipation due to stress hormones affecting your gut.

Arms and Legs: Anxiety can lead to muscle tension in your arms and legs. Some people also experience trembling or shaking, a physical sign of stress.
