Freezer Magic: How to Freeze Strawberries with Sugar, Syrup, or Plain
Pick ripe, fresh berries: Choose strawberries that are bright red, firm, and free from mold or soft spots.
Wash and dry thoroughly: Rinse berries under cold water, then gently pat them dry. Moisture can cause freezer burn.
Option 1 – Freeze plain: Spread dry, hulled berries on a baking sheet in a single layer. Freeze until solid, then transfer to freezer bags.
Option 2 – Freeze with sugar: Slice strawberries, then mix them with sugar (about 1/2 cup sugar per 4 cups of berries). Let them sit until juice forms, then pack into containers.
Option 3 – Freeze in syrup: Prepare a simple syrup (3 cups water to 1 cup sugar). Let it cool. Place berries in containers and cover with syrup, leaving space for expansion.
Use freezer-safe containers: Whether using bags or jars, ensure they’re labeled, airtight, and made for freezing.
Label and date: Always write the date and method (plain, sugar, or syrup) on the container.
Leave headspace: Syrupy or juicy strawberries need extra room to expand as they freeze.
