Fridge or Fruit Bowl? The Smartest Ways to Store Kiwi for Weeks

Know your kiwi’s ripeness – Firm kiwis aren’t ripe yet, while slightly soft ones are ready to eat. Store based on ripeness.

Ripen at room temperature – Keep unripe kiwis in a fruit bowl at room temp until they soften slightly.

Refrigerate when ripe – Once ripened, place them in the fridge to slow down spoilage. They can last up to 4 weeks this way.

Use the crisper drawer – The fridge’s crisper drawer helps maintain the right humidity level, perfect for kiwi storage.

Avoid ethylene exposure – Keep ripe kiwis away from bananas, apples, and avocados which release ethylene gas and speed up ripening.

Store in a breathable bag – Use a perforated plastic or paper bag in the fridge to let air flow and prevent moisture buildup.

Freeze for long-term use – Peel, slice, and freeze kiwis if you won’t eat them soon. Great for smoothies later!

Keep peeled kiwis airtight – Store cut or peeled kiwi in an airtight container in the fridge and eat within 2–3 days.
