How to Store Avocados So They Never Turn Brown (No Chemicals!)

Leave the Pit In: If you've only used half, leave the pit in the other half. It slows browning in the exposed area.

Use Airtight Containers: Store cut avocados in a small airtight container to limit oxygen exposure.

Brush with Lemon or Lime Juice: Though citrus juice is natural, it’s optional. It adds flavor but also slows oxidation.

Wrap Tightly with Plastic or Beeswax Wrap: Cover the surface tightly to keep out air. Press the wrap directly on the flesh.

Use Onion Slices: Place avocado halves in a container with cut red onion. The sulfur from the onion helps slow browning.

Submerge in Water: Place the cut side down in a container of clean water and refrigerate. Use within a day or two.

Freeze Mashed Avocado: For long-term storage, mash and freeze it in portions. It’ll stay green and be perfect for guac later.

Store Unripe Avocados at Room Temp: Keep whole, unripe avocados on the counter. Refrigeration slows ripening.
